   what happens if you give a default value in get? maybe it returns None and fails because of that?

     @kaia@brotka.st @steffo@junimo.party we're getting bools, and iirc the default None value should just be falsey, which is the default value of the element anyway, so i have no clue what's goin on

     @kaia@brotka.st @steffo@junimo.party update, it was because in the outer if statement, someone decided to do a multi line condition but with [] instead of ()
