@km once there's people there, I will agree. Till then, I'll be waiting.🤷♂️
That's my only issue. The only people there are shilling Bitcoin and Nostr itself and if you're not doing that, you're getting no engagement.
@km @kariboka for me, I found this was the best way. This way you don't have to see as much bitcoin memes and racists/trolls.
@km @kariboka but it's not like Fedi. You see everything, no matter who you follow or who follows you. If I browse hashtags, I'm gonna see those people and they can see my posts and interact with them. That happens less through the bridge.
@km @kariboka The issue is, a lot of people won't want to deal with those types of people.
Trust me, I definitely know how Fedi is. I run my own instance, just like you.
That being said, since I run my own instance and see those things, I don't really see too much difference between me being here or there.
The biggest difference for me is that there are those people who watch out for those things and let me know so I can block them on Fedi.
On Nostr, I'd have to do it all myself because they're individual people instead of entire instances.
It got a bit overwhelming for me.
Then there was the issue that since I didn't meme about Bitcoin or Nostr itself very much, I didn't get much engagement.
So it was a compounding thing, multiple personal issues that made me just want to be here and bridge instead of using the account there daily.
@km @kariboka trust me, I know. That's what I said, just without saying those specific words.
I'd have to block each individual racist/troll myself. Considering there's hundreds or maybe even a couple thousand of them, it'd be quite difficult.😬
@km @kariboka I don't. I follow Fediblock and check out the instances they post about and block them if I feel it's necessary.
Sometimes I make Fediblock posts as well to help others do the same.
It's not perfect, but it works.
@kariboka @km There's almost 700 relays on Nostr. Your account data and ownership is through a "Private Key" that's stored on the relays you use. But once your posts go around, other relays pick it up as well. That's how the data is spread around. As you can guess, there's relays that are hosted specifically by these types of people so they will never get fully banned and many other relays just take data from other relays and host it as well.
Yes, it's pretty much lawless. There's ways on certain apps to label someone as "spam" or "problematic", but it doesn't ban them, only puts a report on their profile that anyone can read.
@km @kariboka Regarding the blocklists, I wholeheartedly agree and hope it's being worked on by others to be able to share blocks with real evidence in a safe place for admins. I've seen people say such work is being done.
@km @kariboka On Fedi? I have quite a few relays. Otherwise, I'd ask the question of how would I come in touch with people I want to see? 🤷♂️
@km @kariboka I don't have time for that. If i see it on fediblock, i investigate if it's worth blocking for me. If i see it myself, then obviously I can choose at that moment.
@km @kariboka You seem very angry...
I only block those who I don't like. I shouldn't have to see people spouting the n-word every sentence if I don't want to, thats why I'm on my own instance.
I'm federated with 16,000+ instances.
@kariboka @km relays carry many different types of people and I can't control exactly what comes through. Also, I am not on Akkoma, so my interface for that isn't very clean. I can only see per instance and I'd have to add them all up.
Though, I clear out accounts I don't interact with, once a week to save space on profile pics and headers.
Though, I clear out accounts I don’t interact with, once a week to save space on profile pics and headers.
That’s a good practice, I will learn if I can do the same here.
@kariboka It's definitely good that I can do that, otherwise I feel I'd have like 50-100 gb of *just* profile pics and headers.
I'm not sure if Akkoma has that ability, though I always wonder which ones do and don't because I'm always thinking of getting off of Mastodon.
Sharkey did not have that ability when I used it back in May. However, they did have the ability to not have media cache at all, and pull from the original instance as needed.
@kariboka ah, I don't think media is normally saved to the database.
So if you're not using much more than that on the entire disk, I would guess that media isn't cached there either.🤷♂️
@BeAware hmm other than that I have only the local uploads. But there is a cache because I had to set a subdomain only for this (all images here are under cache.harpia.red) for instance your profile pic
@kariboka well, since you have a subdomain, I'd guess that it's somewhere on your server, unless you have cloud storage setup with S3 or something. I do, but the way mastodon has it integrated, it's like no difference between local or cloud to clear it out. Same commands.
