     Star Trek was made possible, in part, by none other than the incomparable Lucille Ball.

     As head of the Desilu studio, she was instrumental in approving production of the series, when other board members were less enthusiastic about the idea pitched by Gene Roddenberry.

     Thanks to a write-in campaign initiated by Trekkies, NASA's first space shuttle in 1976 was named Enterprise instead of the Constitution.

     Star Trek’s creator Roddenberry and many of the show’s cast members attended the Shuttle rollout ceremony, hosted by NASA Administrator James C. Fletcher, in Sep 1976.
