      @sun yes. Also even the previous one just said "private," not "secure." Telegram doesn't use e2ee except when users manually turn it on for direct messages (not group chats/channels)

      @caekislove @sun closed source e2ee apps are still more trustworthy than non-e2ee apps depending on your threat model. Backdoored applications will generally require you to be specifically targeted whereas with a non e2ee network you're directly feeding everything you say into the dragnet

      How on earth can you confirm if the proprietary software is even e2ee?

      Proprietary stuff often uses hand-rolled crypto as well, which is easily broken.

      You cannot ever trust proprietary malware that can and will spy on you for profit.
