@sun yes. Also even the previous one just said "private," not "secure." Telegram doesn't use e2ee except when users manually turn it on for direct messages (not group chats/channels) dilbert 1 likes this. -

@sun I believe that line still appears under another question. I haven't checked personally but Telegram should never be assumed private. In conversation permalink dilbert 1 likes this. -

@sun I do remember it saying the above a few months ago, didn't check if it did get updated like that but I wouldn't be surprised In conversation permalink dilbert 1 likes this. -

@caekislove @sun closed source e2ee apps are still more trustworthy than non-e2ee apps depending on your threat model. Backdoored applications will generally require you to be specifically targeted whereas with a non e2ee network you're directly feeding everything you say into the dragnet In conversation permalink -

@animeirl >closed source e2ee apps are still more trustworthy
How on earth can you confirm if the proprietary software is even e2ee?
Proprietary stuff often uses hand-rolled crypto as well, which is easily broken.
You cannot ever trust proprietary malware that can and will spy on you for profit. In conversation permalink -

Anything not opensourced is backdoored and probably the binary release of something opensource is backdoored too. In conversation permalink
