i'll avoid complaining about how the github-style contribution sucks, but just say that it doesn't work for a project structured like the kernel where you don't have a single repo, but each subsystem is developed basically as a "fork" by many people and merged back piece-meal

trying to manage a single centralized repo with 1700+ developers on it would be *hell*
