     @meso He might be referring to "Young generation growing to replace the old ones", which can be occasionally referred to as just "смена" - "Вот смена-то растёт!" - an exclamation of senior excited for young generation capabilities in this example, but it is heavily context-dependent and in no way general meaning of the word.
