Tbh I don't know, I already use Linux and Windows 10. Frankly I will just use glacier distros and fringe distros as long as they stay usable and functional.
I'm just seeing a disturbing trend going on, its not just Lunduke's videos, of people pushing to reinvent the wheel with the traditional Linux desktop as you and I know it by forcing wayland and rust down our throats in the name of "security", which is utter hogwash. These insane rust devs are literally demanding that C devs stop what they are doing and help them convert the kernel to rust. I think this is a bad idea, I see nothing wrong with C or C++ and it has been the backbone of modern software since the personal computer took off and became mainstream. This coupled with this bizarre desire or movement to completely remove Xorg from distros entirely is just concerning.
Then you have woke activists that are actively seeking to push straight men with any religious or conservative leanings out of projects, as in the case of NixOS. Many of these men through voluntary effort made alot of the tools we all benefit from on a daily basis. These guys are all skilled enough to work in big tech and never look back.
So I wonder if we may see a future where the vast majority of skilled OG developers get replaced by mediocre devs that write shit code, focus only on CoCs and identity politics, allowing more bloat and brokenness to occur all around.
I hope Im wrong, I really do. However the future looks uncertain for many Linux distros.
I hope you're right. My main systems are fine, the Ubuntu machine is airgapped and until the SSD fails I will use it exactly as it is. When that time comes I may explore Slackware or revisit FreeBSD, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
