I grew up in the 80s in bmx/skate/moto culture and it was so toxic for women that there was only 1 woman BMXer sponsored by a major company. Now there are hundreds. My favorite rider, silver medalist Perris Benegas just posted photos of her proposal to her longtime girlfriend and her sponsors and other top riders all congratulated her because it's wonderful when you see true joy.

Anyway, I can't believe how far bmx culture has come in the past 30 years, it feels night and day better now.
