     Didn't this happen before 2008? I remember news articles about DG stores doing very well, even in semi-affluent areas, and the thesis of those articles was that inflation put a squeeze on even the middle class. Therefore, they seek cheaper options.
     
     DG et al blew up and then collapsed within a few years.
