     @ntnsndr So what happens if a team gets bought by a private equity firm, which is then itself bought by some kind of community trust?

     Could a local government own a sports team?

     @katanova My understanding is the NFL owners are terrified of anything that doesn't smell of profit maximization, because it risks lowering the value of their assets.

     The Defector article I linked to is great on the legacy of and resistance to public ownership in US sports.
