I love how we inhabit a world where the majority of people live according to the dictates of a magic invisible sky fairy and yet feel competent to pass judgement on the mental wellbeing of others.
@fkamiah17@aral when I hear the name Copeland I cannot help but think of this fabulous video. I hadn’t appreciated the overlap between preaching and metal. https://youtu.be/0JPRvxTjfOk
@aral I noticed another one of the Evangelists (Copeland, I think) has bought himself an "essential" $36mn private jet with the "tithes" from his "congregation" 🙄
@aral It’s really disappointing to get this periodic reminder that, no matter how good I ever get at following the tenets of love & understanding in my religion, atheists will just sneer and dismiss me with “magic sky fairy”.
@naptowncode Love and understanding don’t require religion, they require humanity.
And I’m no more an atheist than I am an abatmanist. (I don’t define myself by the fact that I don’t believe that this storybook character or that is real.)
@naptowncode I never said it’s impossible to be a good person despite religion. It just takes a lot of work to creatively reinterpret/ignore/reject all the horrible bits.
@aral I never said religion is required to be a good person. I’m just annoyed that I can live up to your stated ideas of a good person and still be an object of your contempt.
