More incredibly depressing news like out of Wisconsin. States are on a collision course in terms of public higher ed: systematic defunding combined with a pending enrollment cliff is going to make layoffs like this very, very normal in the next ten years. It’s important to keep in mind that this is an entirely manufactured problem, too, and one used to justify layoffs instead of tackling administrative bloat.
