    I 100% second this from @kataclyst, all of this. That was me too.

    In particular, I was certain that that there was a shadowy big-donor backroom-string-pulling effort to bypass Harris and nominate some Bloomberg-y type — and I may have been right about that, but if so, they got played.

    The afternoon Biden dropped out, I went from horrified to elated in a matter of hours.

      @fivetonsflax@tilde.zone @mattblaze@federate.social I’ll bite. I didn’t think he should drop out, because I couldn’t imagine the Democratic Party doing anything sensible. I thought there’d be a disastrous fight, a mini-primary, and total disarray. I was wrong. How they handled everything was amazing. From announcing after the Sunday shows, to trickling out the endorsements, to picking Walz. Amazing.

      @kataclyst
      I was also extremely concerned about the press’s role: “trying to manifest Biden dropping out like it's Iraq WMD.”

      I think that concern still stands. Huge swaths of the press at best have their heads up their butts about this election, and at worst have editors/execs at the ends of an oligarchical leash.

      But I grossly underestimated the competence, unity, and planning of Democratic Party leadership.

      @inthehands If this keeps going this well and hopefully leads to a significant and incontestable election win, it’ll end up being one of the most successful political manoeuvres I can think of.

      I wonder if we’ll ever learn how much of this was meticulously planned / well executed on the fly / luck.

      I exclaimed “oh, f…” - and it wasn’t “fantastic” - when I heard the news and I’m glad I was so wrong. (Not that it’s done but it’s certainly looking better!)

      Agreed, I really hope we eventually get the inside story.

      I have my guesses but don’t know which parts of the planning spanned weeks vs months vs years — but the groundwork cannot have been a matter of mere hours or days.

      @inthehands @kataclyst That’s what I feared too--some hand-picked “moderate” young business dude. I have honestly never been happier to be wrong.
