By the time mask mandates in various settings ended, it was not uncommon to see folk walking around NYC or sitting on a subway train in the same baggy blue they'd been given in March 2020…
Elastics so worn out that the flimsy piece of fabric wouldn't even serve as jock support for a long beard.
But tell me again how the only reason folk refuse to wear masks now is that cloth masks were too hard to breathe through…
And not that they were only wearing masks then due to rules & social pressure.

At a time when mask wearing is being criminalized—with laws attaching fines and prison time to wearing one, even deputizing population at large to harass people for wearing same…
When early on folk were targeted for violence for wearing masks while being Asian, and now targeted for policing for wearing masks while being Black… or anti-genocide… or disabled…
To have someone insist that the only reason folk ain't wearing masks is they were never informed about the right kind of masks…

Any career educator will tell you there's huge difference between students memorizing just enough information to pass a test, on one hand, and on the other, taking on knowledge such will shape them long after.
"What does this have to do with my life?" tends to be barrier to the latter outcome. Same holds true in "You have to live your life!" era.
