   Apparently all the squashes are the same species??? Like pumpkins and zucchinis and stuff? This is the broccoli thing all over again

     @sanae OK. I've now had time to read up on it. Butternut squash and pumpkin appear to be different species, but zucchini and pumpkin are the same species. There are only 5 domesticated squash species. WILD.

     I read that most canned pumpkin is actually butternut squash, too.
