Crony? Is it something different or are you just misspelling cronie? I use cronie and never had issues. It has anacron features so you can do like@daily @reboot and so on besides standard cron syntax. -

though real criticism for cron would really just be the syntax, i prefer systemd-timers because well, my server already has systemd, might as well use it
