     You're not wrong, but people in these spheres are already skeptical of modern pop science- no need to beat a dead horse. Anyone is always likely to fall in the confirmation bias trap. I will always try to push people towards self-awareness and self-criticality; you can avoid a lot of these pitfalls these ways

Obligations linked to those circles surely disappear when you do that, surely they wouldn't go to the state! And even if they did, surely this wouldn't mean the state will necessarily take interest in every aspect of your life!

     @doctorsex @tadano @SuperSnekFriend most of the usable core of psychology is just a formalization of older techniques. You used to go to your priest or pastor for help and sometimes it could be better than some random person with a piece of paper, but sometimes it could be worse.

     The problem is the medicalization of it where you need someone is a "certified professional" ™️

     @sickburnbro There's a fundamental logic error here though... as a grandparent you should WANT to watch over and spend time with your grandkids. It's like a reward you get for raising your own kids to adulthood because you get to enjoy all of the good with still being able to give them back to their parents at the end of the day. So the question is... what's changed?

     @PhoxFriday In the past, people that were 65+ were too old for full time jobs, didn't get a lot of money in retirement and so they couldn't be vacationing and blowing money 24/7, so with a lot of spare time, watching grandkids was nice.
     
     But now families are fucked up so olds either have all that money to blow on me,me,me or they sit and die in a "community center"

     I mean fair enough but certain privileges are the bedrock of a civilization. The conjugal debt existed in one form or another for thousands of years for a reason. It's not possible to engage in higher forms of organizing when men have to constantly subject themselves to the humiliating ordeal of women's transactionalism just to have their most primal needs met.
