    Question for other #mastoadmin people: I've had a user get followed by a Flipboard account - looks like one of those ones set up to aggregate random interesting fediverse content. The user wasn't sure what to make of it.

    Any opinions on these from a privacy perspective? How well-behaved is Flipboard? Anything I should be concerned about here as an admin?

      To be honest, people should not be afraid of accounts publicly disclosing they are a business or on another platform powered by ActivityPub.

      When your posts are public, anyone can grab them using an API, they don't need your permission or to even follow you. I would be more weary about bots pretending to be human or worse, those that steal your data without even following you, and there is no protection from that!

      I've found Flipboard to be well-behaved and responsible.

      Occasionally, the "CultureDesk" will boost me but usually, it's a post that is already making traction.

      I also believe the accounts they follow from are human curated, so, in that sense, they are being followed by a "person" and not a machine.

      As far as privacy, it is the same level of privacy the user has whether it is you, me or some random person on the Fediverse.

      People have strong feelings about them, though.

      @samir @misty facts.

      I've been saying this for almost a year.

      There's no privacy here when your posts are set to "public".

      This is the internet. If your posts are "public", there's no stopping anyone or anything from getting them.

      That's *everywhere* on the internet.

      I'm not sure where this false sense of privacy comes from here. It's really concerning, though.
