Played some Winning Eleven 2008 and Virtua Fighter 4 today on PCSX2. WE 2008 plays pretty well and might be my favorite football game. The slight gripe I have with it is that defending is disproportionately harder than attacking due to the teammate AI pretty much leaves you to try to win the ball by yourself.

Too bad there aren't any good modern football games.

At VF4 I tried to learn Vanessa, since she is pretty complicated character with two fighting styles (they nerfed her in VF5 so she has only one fighting style there). I'm clearly not very good with her even though I played tons of Shun Di who is arguably harder to master. I don't think the stance switching is something I enjoy compared to smooth flowing combos.

If only there was a modern Virtua Fighter game... No, Tekken and Dead or Alive suck ass in comparison.
