Utah is basically burning books now. “State has ordered books by 13 authors, 12 of them women, to be removed from every public school, classroom and library.” Includes books by Margaret Atwood, Judy Blume, and Rupi Kaur. https://www.theguardian.com/books/article/2024/aug/07/utah-outlaws-books-by-judy-blume-and-sarah-j-maas-in-first-statewide-ban

Here's the actual list of thirteen books, six of them by Maas. The list includes Oryx & Crake, which is a very disturbing book but not because of the sex.
The Guardian's headline is dreadful. It's thirteen books, not thirteen authors, and it's a ban for schools and libraries, not selling and owning. The reality is terrible enough without misleading people.

In 2022, Virginia tried this but it failed although I won't be surprised if they and other states would try to test the waters again especially if TFG is elected. https://www.theverge.com/2022/8/30/23329075/virginia-judge-dismisses-gender-queer-obscenity-minors-case-aclu
