Wanted to type a long email, with some screenshots from my phone. Getting files to the desktop is always a pain. Typing on the phone is also a pain.

Not a pain: create draft email on phone, attach screenshots. Close email. Open draft email on desktop. Type. Send 🙂

looks like this shares the screenshots and the email body with a (third party) server
install GNU Jami on phone and desktop and you can send files between devices, besides sending text, audio and video messages and hold interactive calls securely with your contacts and groups, without centralized servers

@lxo that third party server was going to see my email anyway

I send email using my own MTA (SMTP server), from local interactive MUAs. I figured you were planning on sending the email to some other server that gets everyone's email (a problem in itself), but that was not at all what I was getting at
the point I was concerned about was developing a technique for solving a real problem that, in this specific case, wouldn't incur any significant disadvantages, but that might then become such a habit that you would no longer think whether the same preconditions applied, or even that would keep you from switching to a generally superior and safer communications infrastructure if it didn't happen to support this workflow. that kind of behavioral trap is something I'm often alert to and try to avoid, to keep my freedom, and that of others who would listen to me

@lxo I'd ask how you do email without involving any servers but I doubt the answers would interest me.
