When you have to stop critisizing someone out of fear of being silenced, you know you're in a bad place.
Being here doesn't feel so good anymore.😔

@yabozdar nah, just criticizing someone in power might cause me to get silenced on a bigger instance.
I've criticized that person heavily very recently and they personally blocked me cause of it. However, I know of multiple accounts that are silenced there and am still investigating why.
Its still seemingly pointing to the criticisms of that person. However, i need more time to evaluate.
@BeAware what happened? Are you in a fist to fist fight again?
@BeAware If this is the case then you need to learn the art of "constructive criticism". No one will ever be able to silence you. (caution: you might get crushed rather than silenced.)
@yabozdar yeah...it's just concerning that it could be happening at all.
Twitter vibes...🤦♂️
@BeAware Silenced by an individual or an entire instance? What size instance? That should only happen to raving lunatics. You're not a raving lunatic.
@Jerry I've messaged you privately regarding the situation.
@xepher someone in control of certain parts of the Fediverse...😬
Maybe you can guess exactly who I'm talking about with that.
@BeAware Someone on the fediverse? Or someone the fediverse likes?
@Jerry@hear-me.social @BeAware@social.beaware.live This is one of the major pitfalls of the fediverse :/
Centralisation occurs because new users would rather join a well established big instance (psychologically nicer), but that just increases the power of one or multiple people who can easily abuse it for personal reasons.
Hopefully more and more service providers pop up (or masto.host just becomes more successful) so there's more decentralisation and more bubbles don't form (though then post migration is an issue).
@exerra @Jerry I don't think there's any better way to say it.
It's bad.
@xepher yeah...after further investigation, it's not specifically criticisms of him. More that it's conflicts regarding opinions of the Gaza-Israel conflict.
If you feel very strongly on one side, you won't last very long on .social....🤦♂️
@BeAware If you’re talking about Eugen Rochko, I feel like I see negative posts about him all the time. Plenty of people that have strong opinions about him here it seems.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live @Jerry@hear-me.social I think ultimately centralisation is bound to happen eventually, but it still hurts. Also a lot of crap is given to centralised platforms like Reddit, Twitter, etc, but I feel like they have been quite good at moderation (bar bots recently on Twitter). As they are big companies they have safety teams with a certain level of accountability, and thus they are more open towards letting users express different opinions.
Here sometimes I get the feeling I am less free due to many admins being personally invested into issues and lacking accountability (no one's firing them or docking their pay).
@exerra @Jerry if I could make this post the front page of every Fedi project, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
This is exactly how i feel.
If you have opinions, better keep them to yourself or you're gonna be banned/silenced/blocked.
@xepher sure, but you are a mere normal user.
Eugen just silences one side of the argument completely on .social
I have my own opinions as well, but I am not an admin of the biggest Fedi instance silencing one side of the argument.
@BeAware Ahh yeah, I’ve had to try to ignore a lot of that on here. Lots of people getting very aggressive in their opinions one way or the other. I try not to wade out too far in those waters, there’s way too many sharks.
