   He recently described political opposition as “enemy fire that’s coming over the target,” while urging allies to be “fearless at the point of attack” & calling his policy proposals “battle plans.”

     Following #Trump’s exit from the WH, Vought formed The Center for Renewing America. The org’s mission is to be “the tip of the America First spear” & “to renew a consensus that America is a nation under God.”

     Vought has defended the concept of #ChristianNationalism…. Christian nationalism, he wrote 3 yrs ago, “is a commitment to an institutional separation between church & state, but not the separation of #Christianity from its #influence on #government & #society.”

     Under #Vought, #OMB also withheld military #aid to #Ukraine as #Trump pressured President Volodymyr #Zelenskyy to investigate President Joe #Biden & his son. Vought refused to comply w/a congressional demand to depose him during the subsequent Democrat-led House investigation that led to Trump’s first #impeachment. The inquiry, Vought said, was a sham.

     #OMB is a typically sedate office that builds the president’s #budget & reviews #regulations. But w/ #Vought at the helm, OMB was at the center of showdowns between #Trump & #Congress over federal spending & the #legal bounds of #PresidentialPower.

     After lawmakers refused to give Trump more money for his southern US #BorderWall, the budget office siphoned billions from the #Pentagon & #Treasury Dept budgets to pay for it.

     #Vought’s confirmation hearing was contentious. Sen #BernieSanders accused him of using #Islamophobic language when he wrote in 2016 that #Muslims “do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his Son, & they stand condemned.”

     Vought told senators his remarks were taken out of context & said he respected the right of every person to express their #religious beliefs.

I think he likes what Donald Trump represents in terms of the political forces he’s able to harness.”

     …When Trump was elected, Vought became OMB’s deputy director.
