@rose I felt really similarly when I finished his novel Attack Surface
there was a lot to like in it about how people justify their own collaboration in oppressive systems and how to untangle those feelings; really great stuff
but then the necessity of a climactic confrontation led the story down this bizarre tortured path where the solution is to just Vote Harder and everything will magically turn out ok once you get the right candidate in office and the cops will just ... stop being violently oppressive because they don't have access to hyper-focused surveillance? what??
