   If you conflate Fediverse software, you're making it confusing for people that are unknowledgeable on the subject.

   Mastodon ≠ Pleroma ≠ Akkoma ≠ Misskey ≠ Sharkey ≠ GoToSocial.

   Every Fedi software is developed by different people for the most part. Each dev has different values and ideologies which might show with the features of their software.

   Everyone is different and so is the software they create.

     I understand and agree that they're different software in the same general category.
     
     This feels like a case where people conflate a thing with the biggest most ubiquitous brand in the category, like Xeroxing a document or offering a Kleenex or Googling something on the internet.

     I think people conflating the two, whether good or bad, is inevitable so long as one option dominates the space. Like, we should expect to have to reiterate that distinction
