      The deputy national chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales says the "abhorrent, senseless acts of violence" that took place yesterday are detracting officers from everyday policing.

      "We're not able to attend all the 999 calls because of what's happening," Lynch adds, saying officer morale and wellbeing is being affected by the riots and "we haven't got an infinite number of officers".

      Faith leaders have said "too many people have sought to use the [ #Southport ] tragedy to create division and hate".

      Leaders from the Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh and Hindu communities, among others, issued a joint stmt :
      Division can destroy the very relationships and environment that we depend upon every day of our lives and there is no place for hate in our communities. It can - and has - left communities in fear and has put people in danger. there is far more that unites than divides us"

      We've seen crowds gather today in #Rotherham #Bolton #Hull #Southport #Middlesbrough and elsewhere, with varying levels of unrest.

      In Middlesbrough, the BBC team has witnessed demonstrators carry a banner referring to the Southport knife attacks, before throwing cans and bottles at police officers and shops with the shutters down.

      Youths wearing masks have attacked cars, with one overturned and set alight.

      A #BBC reporter on the ground in #Rotherham has seen rioters get inside a hotel which has been targeted this afternoon.
      Individuals wearing balaclavas could be seen at the windows as the crowd outside tried to force its way in.
      Police officers have been repeatedly attacked and have had wooden fence panels thrown at them.
      One local woman who joined an earlier anti-immigration protest told the BBC's Navtej Johal the scenes at the hotel are “absolutely barbaric… this is not what we’re here for"

      South #Yorkshire 's Mayor Oliver Coppard says he is "utterly appalled by the violence" in #Rotherham today.

      "What we’re seeing is not protest, it is brutal thuggery directed against some of the most vulnerable people in our society", he says in a statement.

      "The people carrying out these attacks do not represent the beautiful, brilliant place and people I know. We will come after those carrying out this violence with the full force of the law."

      The policing minister told the BBC that the unrest has spread fear in communities and that people are particularly "frightened because of the colour of their skin"

      There was more unrest in parts of the UK last night, with police coming under attack in #Belfast , #Darlington and #Plymouth

      In South Belfast, riot officers had stones and petrol bombs thrown at them, while six people were arrested in Plymouth for what police described as a "range of public order offences and assaults"

      the Northern Ireland Assembly is being recalled from its summer recess to discuss Saturday’s violence and disorder on the streets of #Belfast

      The assembly will debate a motion on Thursday condemning the criminal damage affecting businesses and rejecting "all forms of #Islamophobia #xenophobia and #racism

      Earlier, a Belfast judge said the violence in Belfast had "racist elements" as he denied bail to four men who were charged in relation to the disorder.

      Healthcare workers have been told to "remain vigilant" and travel in groups by the Royal College of GPs after the past week of violence.

      The college is concerned about reports of "horrific and completely unacceptable" abuse and violence against GPs and their staff, "especially those from ethnic minorities".

      "Where possible and appropriate, travel in groups, avoid known areas of unrest, and keep your mobile phones charged and accessible," the body says.

      This morning, Reform UK’s Nigel Farage and Labour’s Diane Abbott have joined the calls.

      No 10 is playing down the prospect at the moment.
