I am very careful moving around because I know the ableism at UC Davis has weakened me and made me gain a LOT of weight, making me more prone to falling. I have no partner, no children, no real social network to help me out if I get injured.

But the heat also makes me move as quickly as I can manage so I can get out of the sun/heat.

I tripped over my own pedal today, falling face-forward onto the ground.

Luckily I was wearing a helmet AND I was falling onto dirt. But it still injured me.

None of my neighbors saw, or if they saw they didn't inquire into it. I laid on the ground until I could catch my breath, tend to my pride, and summon the strength to get enough leverage & balance to get back up again.

I don't know what it is with me this month. I have a big scab on my left shin from barking it on a pedal, and now I have a gash further down on my right shin from tripping and falling forward.

I was able to get myself out of this predicament, but it does worry me because

I *really do* take extra precautions and take the risk of injury at my age, with my disabilities, and our thin social support network quite seriously.

It's another example of how wearing a helmet isn't only about car collisions, no matter how much abled dudes love to pretend it is.

I'm 6 ft tall and weigh....a lot. Falling over like that could throw my head at the ground quite hard. I was grateful I had my helmet on.

And fuck UC Davis' ableism for increasing the risk this would happen.
