   ServerDB exists and is established.

   It is a Django/MySQL application that

   controls server BMCs to reset and reinstall them,

   flashes their various BIOSes up to recent,

   collects inventory from autodetected boxes,

   talks to finance and matches detected hardware with orders,

   and also acts as a Puppet ENC to tell servers via puppet what they are.

   It links into various monitoring and log collectors, so when you find a server in ServerDB you can go to all other subsystems.

     This is also codified in several Perl packages that support working with replicated MySQL "right" automatically, so things start to hurt less.

     It is the first time I quote this in writing to my colleagues.

     2013, parts of dw now life in Hadoop, after I have repurposed 40 decommissioned former database nodes into a test hadoop cluster and it scaled almost linearly.

     There are a lot of replication chains now.

     Primary servers are still special, because we have neither invented GTID nor parallel replication, yet.

     Fleet size is a solid 4 digits.

     And we are only 6. Against 200 devs trying to break stuff.
