   Governments always want to censor and surveil the internet and the only thing that ever changes is the boogeyman they point to as justification for their power grab.

     @evacide now, it's not just governments, but the ones who write the paychecks for the politicians...CEOs, billionaires, and even people with mild power are all taking advantage of the technologically illiterate folks.

     On a way smaller scale, but more critical to Fedi, is the way Eugen has used Mastodon's position of his software being the most used Fedi software, to implement features that aren't added to the core of AP, which makes it easier for the Mastodon dev team and infinitely harder for any other dev trying to build in the space.

     He also abuses his position as the owner of the biggest instance, to censor people that talk about certain things like the Israel/Gaza conflict.

     Power corrupts. There's no way around it.
