     @seachanger I think you're going to have a tough time pinning down anything on mastodon since users only see stuff from the list of accounts they follow and everyone has a different list. If people are seeing the racism you are insinuating it's because they follow racists.

     I'm sure that there are some vastly underrepresented demographics and viewpoints. Maybe you can find some way to quantify that? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

     I’m sure many smarter people have and are making these points better than me. Im just trying to dig up a starting place for understanding the race dynamics on this website, which sure seems grounded in the idea that white people don’t exist. that Black and brown folks break the (white) peace by virtue of talking about color at all in a space that dreams of itself without color

     teaching white people “Black history” is a really good way to pat all white people on the back without making a single white person have to reckon with their own whiteness

     it’s not so different than how we teach The Holocaust of (white) Jews but not the holocaust of Indigenous people

     white people won’t learn history unless we’re made to feel history doesn’t apply to us personally in our own skin & body

     one problem with white people is we don’t think we exist. we know Black and brown people exist and we think any problems they have are regrettably due to them being Black and brown. It’s a pity, that they have these problems due to their skin color, many of us are always thinking.

     it makes sense. White people can feel post-racism cuz we read Black authors and consume Black music & culture. But the problem is we do not read or consume anything that helps us understand our own whiteness
