    The "cat lady" stereotype derives from the independence of cats, which can be linked w/ a suspicion of independent women. “A woman that chooses an animal that is arguably never entirely tamed is to be suspected of being untamable herself.” https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/27/us/cat-lady-explained-cec/index.html

      How ‘cat lady’ became an insult for women of a certain age | CNN
      from Scottie Andrew
      “Cat lady” is usually used to refer to childless women who live alone with their feline companions. Here’s how the stereotype lobbed at Kamala Harris came to be — and how some women are reclaiming the term.

      @amydiehl Spinster is a word used to insult women, but it refers to women who were so good at spinning yarn, making cloth, and making money that they didn't have to depend on a man.
      They don't like smart, capable, independent women.

      @amydiehl if men were civilized, women & girls wouldn't "need taming" 💃

      @amydiehl Ah, they have not met "Childless Parrot Ladies."

      Parrots are not really domesticated, they merely accept the wingless bringers of treats with whom they live. In their own right they are "as intelligent as children" and far more intelligent than MAGAts.

      @amydiehl Absolutely!
      In the past single women with cats were often persecuted. Cats were portrayed as demons, and thought to be witch's familiars.
      There is very dark history behind this stereotype.
