@jjetty the problem is any time ive tried to something has happened that i've had to work on something, intervene, whatever the case may be. so the thought of vacation even is stressful. i dont know
@graf@jjetty Brother Graf, my old man used to to always tell people to go on holiday. He used to say "If you were dead they would have to manage without you". Think about yourself, friend, and please go on holiday for a bit
@graf As someone who also has less free time, less sleep and more stress as of late I highly recommend you cease any opportunity you get to take a vacation and take it easy. You'll be glad you did so in the long run.
@Humpleupagus@Dan_Hulson@jjetty i dont even want a vacation. just a couple days where i can like. forget? whats going on and who i am i guess. poast itself isnt stressful but all the stuff that comes with it is. running the nitter, making sure that it's functional. making sure the youtube proxy is functional. fixing random shit like the emoji flag reacts that i was so frustrated because i think gitlab blocked poasts ips i ended up making a frustrated merge reason and alex merged it when I submitted a PR and approved it gitlab.com/soapbox-pub/soapbox/-/merge_requests/3075 (dont click commits)
It takes me a couple of days off to even start feeling like myself, and I mean completely off, which is rare. One email can keep me from just letting my head roam free.
@Humpleupagus@graf@jjetty When I stopped working I still had to keep my work phone with me as the guy who took over my Dad's business struggled to run it on his own so I helped. tbh though retirement is so fucking boring I don't know what to do with my days anymore
I've been fairly busy the last two months, but I closed up two big matters about a week ago, and I'm waiting on some other clients to pull triggers, so I have a bit of down time now, though I never really get off completely. There's always a few emails and a couple of phone calls, etc.
About the only time I can actually disappear is the two weeks around Christmas / New Years, and only if the holidays fall mid-week.
I actually prefer to be at home with my wife and kids. I have just about anything I need here... board games, art supplies, instruments, etc., and I live near public open space, so I have hills and creeks to run around in too.
@Humpleupagus@Dan_Hulson@jjetty i cant even do that brother. i'd love to disappear with gf for a week but i have IRL deadman switches that would put shit into action. even if i stopgap that, the most i would get is maybe a week. if you could go to the most remote place on earth besides north sentinel island, where would you go?
