In a first, botanists vote to remove offensive #plant names from hundreds of species

“Some have pushed to restore #Indigenous species names and change offensive ones, such as those in the genus Hibbertia, which was named in honor of English antiabolitionist and plantation owner George Hibbert.

A few #botanists have also proposed getting rid of eponyms honoring humans altogether.”
