   @Rocket I have done the "put the drive in the freezer for an hour" trick for getting it working long enough to restore files, at least three times. some people say it damages the drive worse but if it failed, why not try it

     Waited too long to replace my 8 year old backup 5tb hard drive. It crashed twice while copying to my new drive. I'm now trying a third time. I think it's overheating, so I'm trying to run it at half speed. Working so far.
     
     Everything important is backed up to my Google drive, but even at half speed, a local restore is going to much faster than downloading everything.
