   I made a bunch of pictures of my trip with my camera but I can't show them because modern Chinkpads APPEARANTLY DO NOT HAVE SD CARD SLOTS

     I should've brought the X200 instead of my T14s work shitbox but I was like "oh the T14s has like 1 hour longer battery life let's bring that".

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl The fact that the SD card slot is missing on this laptop means that my X200, which can't even run a recent version of most Slicer software due to OpenGL 2.1, is still a better laptop for 3D printing.

     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo That's my biggest complaint against my current ThinkPad. Unfortunately, it's pretty common across a lot of modern laptops. I don't know why they want to axe the SD card slot. All the ThinkPads I've owned recently have Kensington Locks on them...when would I ever use that vs. an SD card slot? If device real-estate is the issue.

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl My X200 doesn't run hot at all. Did you clean the fan and replace thermal paste and all that stuff?

     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo My X230 just runs real hot. And I have to carry around an entirely different charging brick/cable/connector since it uses the DC barrel plug vs. my X13 which uses USB-C (all my devices use USB-C these days).

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl Also did you know that you can buy USB-C to oldschool Thinkpad barrel plug dongles? Definitely worth getting one if you ever want to charge your Thinkpad using a power bank.

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl My X200 can actually do RAW photo editing using DigiKam. Just don't expect it to be very fast.

     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo Yeah, my X230 couldn't edit any of the photos I'd want to edit on Darktable nor Lighroom (assuming I was running Windows). But, at least it's got an SD card slot. Meanwhile, the X13 probably could handle photo editing, but it has no means of doing so without dongles or adapters.

     @relentless_eduardo@freeatlantis.com I actually don't mind CD drives being junked on laptops, considering the size and weight it adds to a machine. A fucking SD card slot however, that's just being cheap.

     @relentless_eduardo@freeatlantis.com Can't relate, I've never had a SD card reader not work on a laptop before.
     
     Having a SD card on a laptop is actually also a great and cheap way to add additional storage to the devices easily.

     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo I might have to dig out my X230 and play around with it, then. Running Debian on it with KDE. Might switch over to openSUSE with XFCE or something. I dunno. I don't really use it all that much anymore compared to my current machine. I do appreciate the swappable batteries, though.

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl Oh yeah I miss swappable batteries on modern machines so much.
     
     I actually use my X200 all the time for almost anything. This T14s is the laptop that work gave me and I regret taking this one on my vacation instead of the X200.

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl I run Debian with XFCE on my X200. I consider it the least viable desktop environment that doesn't cut into performance like KDE or something does. I run KDE on my T14s tho.

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl Also if you haven't Librebooted (with blobs) your X230 yet you're missing out. It's worth digging it out just for that imo.
     
     Enjoy faster boot times than any modern machine!
     Just delete your /boot partition and boot anyway because your motherboard chip has it's own GRUB payload now!

     @adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl The only downside of XFCE is it is pretty outdated relying on GTK3 and no Wayland support. But those things are only positives on older hardware.

     @SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo Running Gnome on my X13. KDE on my desktop (which hasn't been touched in months, in an apartment I'm never at and need to unload). Never had much by way of trouble or difficulty with XFCE, seems pretty solid and I'm led to believe (never tested this myself) that it's more performant on lower-end (by today's standards) hardware.
