The current Russian generations have seen their best days under Putin. Russia has all the resources to become a successful country, but hey… They love their strongmen. And strongmen have a tendency to mess things up.

Look at all the investment that foreign companies have made since the 90s. Stolen by Putin at any second on a whim. No airplane company will go there after theft of Boeing and Airbus leased planes.
From what I read somewhere Siberian oilfields are in danger of shutting down. To start them up again takes years at best.

And even if they were to survive, it would take a lot of cash for them to dig themselves out of the hole they've dug under Putin’s rule. Anyone who wants a decent life had better work in a plan to leave Russia. What will remain its a vodka fuelled population looking for another strongman to lead them. It’s the Russian way.
