@hj it's about fascism and communism. he's accurately describing fascism and national socialism at the beginning to suddenly switch tone and praise communism, ignoring its big crimes against humanity like the holodomor.
@kaia to be fair a good amount of this has to do with the united states using naval blockades to illegal suppress trade and aid to cuba. not all but some
@hj@kaia Apparently some still believe that solving problems is a matter of "good guys" "winning" — staying blind to the fact that democracy isn't that and that beloved leader becomes cruel dictator overnight when left unchallenged and without competition, same as "do no evil" company becomes a "only do evil" one as soon as it asserts market dominance 😩
@p he saw a lot of social injustice on his lonely night walks in Vienna and said to his best friend at the time that he wanted to help those people. that it was his God-ordained task to help them or something crazy.
@joshix@kaia a large contributor factor to the economic situation is international boycott spearheaded by the USA, yes. Freedom restrictions, not so much. (And the two are unrelated, the USA has always had very friendly economic relations with right-wing authoritarian regimes with an even worse track record than Cuba.)
