    Trump isn't popular. We know this. He has a hard ceiling of support. Most people don't want him to be running and don't want to vote for him. Unfortunately, a lot of people feel the same way about Biden.

    So this election is purely a question of whether Biden (or whomever) can turn out enough voters in the right states to overwhelm Trump's core of supporters and how he can do that.

    Everything else is bullshit.

      @gwynnion Question, why has no president ever dismissed the so unpopular Electoral College?

      @happymilk It would require a constitutional amendment to eliminate it directly. There could be state level changes to how electoral votes are assigned, such as giving them to the national popular vote winner. But Republicans know they would probably never win another presidential election if that was adopted nationwide.

      @gwynnion @happymilk Republicans depend very much on keeping those parts of the Constitution that are there for historical reasons and are not suited to modern conditions.

      Notice also how their law pundits preach against paying heed to modern conditions. They do it slyly, by calling it "originalism" rather than by a more proper name such as "retro-calendarism".

      @gwynnion

      it is also extremely likely that there will be another, much better organized coup attempt.

      @davidpmaurer @gwynnion the way I see it by picking Vance they've given up on convincing swing voters and are just going all out on the coup instead.
