@MnemosyneSinger well, coops are voluntary association. their majority decision making is a pragmatic arrangement, and if they start disadvantaging minorities, or just make otherwise irrational decisions, people can split off and do better.

democratic governments are not based on consent. there is no "social contract", and even leaving states is increasingly heavily restricted. there is a constant struggle to become the dominant group and use state violence against the other groups.
