@evan if you’re in the US or your audience is predominantly in the US, yup.
So many UK folks I know have had a hard time finding an audience off-Twitter.

@mattl why does it matter which country you are in?
@mattl I disagree. By using X, anywhere, you're generating revenue for X Corp.
@evan I think if you’re in the UK posting about UK stuff for a UK audience you probably don’t do much for US elections either way.
I barely gave US politics a second thought before living here.
@ben @mattl hey, these are all tough choices. And if someone feels like the good work they do on X outweighs the revenue they're generating for the Trump campaign, awesome. Just being cognizant of that tradeoff is important.
@mattl @evan Right now in some industries (looking at you, journalism) the social media stats are so bad that dropping any source of referrals is job-threatening. It's going to be up to top management at the very least to make a decision to move. Likely a CEO / Publisher-level choice.
@evan yeah I don’t use it anymore but I can’t fault people who are just trying to share their work. Between Mastodon and Bluesky there’s just not enough people for some people to share their stuff exclusively.
I think you may have skipped the part where Elon Musk is donating $45M per month to the Trump campaign.
Using X generates revenue for X Corp, which makes money for Elon Musk, who contributes money to help Trump win.
@evan @ben yeah I just don’t know how much other countries feel like their usage of Twitter has a bearing on Trump campaign. I need to find a thing that’s not Instagram and start putting photos there too.
@misc @mattl @ben yeah, that's not how ad-supported social media works.
@evan @mattl @ben I've heard people try to argue that they are costing Musk more by being there, and I get that he's a bad businessman, but that seems highly unlikely.
@evan @mattl @ben which is a little weird, especially to say out loud, since the individual campaign contribution limit is $3300.
@vathpela @evan @mattl It's a PAC. Which is a system that really, truly has to be abolished.
@ben @evan @mattl yeah. It's basically just money laundering.
