what I think is the most useful thing here is paying attention to political willpower, and the mental exercise of thinking how things would play out with and without the assassination attempt is a good way of understanding how it works.

what it specifically does is give the side of the attacked a huge amount of political willpower, but the other thing it does is it saps the side which was doing it.
Unless the left totally can absolve themselves of him ( which they cant ) - the right will say 'you did this'.
The FBI "taking over the case" and mishandling it so there is no evidence won't fly here.

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired I have no idea what he is "yelling" about, nor to I particularly care. I am glad people are doing pushback, but I would suggest they try to calibrate their pushback to be useful rather than ignored.

@abner I'm not going to hate on people for having faith, but what I tell all people is "what do YOU want, though?" because politics is now transactional, so "not fucking up" isn't good enough.
