1. I'm on GNU social, not on Mastodon :-)
2. for the same reason I archive my email: it's nonvolatile memory, that I can refer to, index and search when needed
3. deleting my copy of things that others may have preserved does me no good whatsoever, and may place me at a disadvantage翠星石 likes this. -

Alexandre Oliva (lxo@gnusocial.net)'s status on Tuesday, 16-Jul-2024 15:06:57 JST Alexandre Oliva 4. since I was a kid, the notion of erasing things I wrote sounded unappealing to me. when I made a mistake in one of my school notebooks, I found I learned more from leaving the mistake in place, next to the correction, than from erasing it. so I don't delete things I've posted; whether or not I still agree with them. looking back and finding things I disapprove of in my past is the flip side of having become a better person.
