Ok, I have tried a live boot of chimera, installed all the repos. and looked into it.
I cannot say that I loved it. It created some automation where it is not needed (adding repositories is its own package. just add it to /etc/apk/repositories as comments) and it lacks rustup.

So for now, I will stay with Alpine :alpine: which better suits me.

@mirth @prma fwiw looking back at it i don't really like the way i worded the response either (i was not in the best state a year ago, sorry)

though the technical part mostly stands, rustup toolchains are pretty badly scuffed on alpine too due to the whole crt-static default that upstream refuses to change

and in chimera it becomes even more difficult due to libgcc_s

technically you *can* get it working about as well as on alpine, but it requires uhh... symlink hacks and is not really good

@prma Sigh, I hadn't run into that because I don't have any current projects that use Rust but I do not love the way the team addressed it (here for those following: https://github.com/chimera-linux/cports/issues/203)

Packaging Rust's development tools (rustup, rustfmt, clippy et al) · Issue #203 · chimera-linux/cports
Getting a proper Rust dev environment up is at the moment quite tricky due to the Chimera-specific patches to Rust. I've read through them but haven't quite grasped exactly what they accomplish, so...
