   I love FOSS that I can self-host.

   However, some devs REALLY need to work on their documentation skills.

   If there's dependencies that your software requires before it can be run, then the exact instructions for how to install those dependencies AND how to ensure they'll work correctly with your software need to be included.

   Otherwise, as a Linux noob that is trying to self-host things, I won't be able to use your software.

     @BeAware This is absolutely true. I don't understand why someone would go through all the effort to develop something great and then not want to help people deploy it. And not want to help people save the time of Googling around for information that could have been documented.

     This is my number one complaint with FOSS.

     Simple step-by-step instructions should always be made available, including preparation.

     @BeAware In most projects you should be able to contribute some of this documentation yourself. Even if you just outline your difficulties in an issue this will be helpful for others.
