   People are still making the mistake of thinking the right wing are super organized super villains. They're not, they're a coalition of evil and what Trump wants isn't what the evangelicals want, even though they both work together. Trump knows he both desperately needs the evangelical vote and that the evangelicals wanted a Pence not a Trump. The corporations don't care who wins, as long as they get more deregulation, which is why they don't want Biden but figure they can work with Trump. The elites don't care about democracy and they run both parties, and they're currently going after Biden to replace him with someone more compliant (they'll take Trump but he's erratic, if easy to manipulate via his greed and need). It's not Russians destroying American democracy, it's the oligarchs and their corporate interests who are creating this FUD. Once again America, the call is coming from inside the house.

     This was equally true and what actually happened in the lead up to WW2. America only entered the war because it started to harm US business interests, before that American oligarchs were busy funding Hitler and trying to install fascism at home (including the not distant ancestors of some presidents). This is also true of most of England's elites (and undoubtedly Canadian and Australian ones too, and we know about the French elite). All the lies we tell about WW2 and the Nazis, and ourselves as totally good antifascist people, are coming home to roost.

     This is what happens when we lie about our own history, when we lack integrity and prefer grandiose narratives about how good we are and how all evil resides in the Other, we become easily seduced by fascism and toxic nationalism. Nations aren't people but we construct imagined identities in much the same way individual humans construct identity and what happens when the public persona and truth contradict each other. This is why being honest about our own histories is important, it makes us far more impervious to fascism and more able to actually act like decent human beings.
