The pants-shitting rage against the Left Behind game is telling because what conclusion can you gather except one specific religion can't use the ART MEDIUM of games to tell a story from its religious pov without being accused of hate and intolerance. Nearly every religion makes mutually incompatible claims that are presented as truth, that is kind of their thing.

This would have been the perfect time to pull out "the game isn't FOR YOU" and throw it in their faces.

@sun there's some Bowden speech where he talks about how the two things that cannot be integrated into the system are nazism and religious extremism, but everything else can be co-opted and subverted and used to support regime values. even supposedly masculine heroes like Superman or Indiana Jones always use their strength to fight for liberal values

@sun >pants-shitting rage
That's not how I remember it. It was more like a dismissive eye roll. Smug cringe atheism wasn't nearly so played out yet. This was the very early 2000s, possibly even pre 9/11

@coolboymew @YTFoidLover1488 i am antagonistic that i could put in the effort to make a game so offensive to them that they would be forced to ignore it rather than risk exposing its contents to people to refute it

@sun @YTFoidLover1488 and you'll notice that not a single one of them will talk shit about their propaganda games even if it's immense shit and makes them look bad

@sun I'd play (or watch) a Left Behind spiritual successor.

@sun was it actually a technically good game? I haven't played it. was way too into Homeworld and other games. That was a good time for gaming
