#WordWeavers Day 1: Introduce an MC from an antagonist's perspective

In my world, when the City awakens someone to magic, it also tells an experienced city shaman about it, and sends them to be the newbie's mentor for the first few months.

So this is Vanessa Martinez's first meeting with Ángel Castillo, just after their epiphany. N.B.: Though Ángel is non-binary, they didn't realize it at the time of this scene (2012) and Vanessa wouldn't have realized it anyway — hence the yucky misgendering.

#WordWeavers Day 30: How educated are your MCs?

They all have college degrees; two have post-baccalaureate degrees (an architect and a librarian). There are secondary characters who don't have college degrees, but the central group... I guess that's one axis on which they don't have much diversity.

#WordWeavers Day 29: Who in your story gives the most pep talks?

I'm sure there'll be lots of pep talks, but I don't know when, where, or by whom. So far, all I know is that Margot will almost certainly need to give one to Ángel, some time after they suffer a painful defeat and need to be snapped out of their Heroic BSoD (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HeroicBSOD), but even that may shift a little. (Maybe multiple MCs will team up to give them that speech, for example.) Guess I'll figure it out as I go!

#WordWeavers Day 27: Do any children under 2 or older people factor into your story?

No kids under 2; the youngest kids in my story are in the 4- to 5-year-old range. But an old guy, in his eighties, will make an appearance at some point.

Also, there are a bunch of characters in their fifties, but if you count that as "older" then... maybe you need to expand your idea of what a normal age range for characters is?

#WordWeavers Day 26: Are your antagonists or protagonists more fashionable?

Both groups include people who are very fashionable, and people who are only moderately so. No real slobs or poor dressers in either group.

#WordWeavers Day 23: What is your favorite drink while writing?

Anything whiskey-based and very spirit-forward, such as a Manhattan or just straight whiskey.

#WordWeavers Day 22: Do you purposely use symbolism in your story?

Yes. I think if you put any depth or richness into your story, symbols will start to creep in anyway; that's just how minds work. So it's better to deliberately take control of them, choose the symbols you want to use, and make that part of what you're saying and how you're saying it.

#WordWeavers Day 18: Do characters worry about their health?

Carlos doesn't so much "worry about" as "knows he has a chronic, incurable disease and tries to manage it as well as he can."

Margot works in a hospital. You'd better believe she worries about her health — and seeing the low masking rate among her co-workers doesn't help any. She also worries about her dad's health; he's immunosuppressed because of leukemia treatments.

Ángel knows Margot's dad and also worries about his health.
