翠星石 (suiseiseki@freesoftwareextremist.com)'s status on Sunday, 30-Jun-2024 18:08:13 JST 翠星石 @raccoon It's quite interesting that people are predicting that such proprietary software is going to be so badly programmed that it won't account for crossings, despite how those should be marked on a built-in map and will proceed to drive so fast around the corner that it can't brake to a stop in the fairly large gap to the crossing.
If a car can't brake to a stop in the available space, then the body that set the speed limit and selected the crossing location is at fault.
A human who's any good at driving would just mount the curb to dodge the pedestrians if required, but I'm not sure how self-driving proprietary software will respond.
