   I am not an expert, but this is indie web.social…

   Why can't we have an easy "just like Wordpress" install for mastodon servers (or any flavor of federated social)? The same for Mattermost and why don’t we have more choices for federated Slack/Discord alternatives?

   Why do Linux desktops just copy other desktops when they could be Star Trek by now? We need more Brian Eno's designing interfaces :)

     I was about to say, I setup a Matrix (Synapse) server a few years back, and ejabberd (an XMPP server) is working on adding Matrix protocol support as well.

     @mokturtle There're lots of Slack/Discord alternatives, all FOSS. Dozens. Here're a few mature ones: Matrix/Element (uses the Matrix open messaging standard), Rocket.Chat, Zulip, and newer ones: Rebel, FOSSCord,

     @mokturtle I wrote this because I was so frustrated with open communities imposing upon would-be collaborators, forcing them to sacrifice their rights/privacy/sovereignty to take part because collaboration was on proprietary platforms like Slack or Discord.
