   is anyone geninely DJing with this format? :neocat_woozy: i've known it existed for years, but i seem to recall it compresses worse than flac. only real advantage is the way it works is giving you a residuals file along with the compressed one, and you can control a lossless decode from a lossy by having that file around or not
   
   i've never seen it used in the wilds

     @moshibar @mischievoustomato oh. apparently flac won't do 32-bit float, wavpack does.
     
     i actually have stuff that will record 32-bit float these days :blobcatwhatsthis: but those are pretty rare signals

     @adiz @mischievoustomato @moshibar wavpack has 'hybrid' mode where you get two files: one that uses lossy compression, and a residuals file, which if both are present you get a lossless decode otherwise you get the lossy one.
     
     32-bit float is something thats mostly just used internally by DAWs, or by high end recorders nowadays because its precise enough you don't need a gain control anymore. you just fix the volume in post.

     @icedquinn@blob.cat I have no idea what this means. I just thought lossless = lossless. Didn't know there were varying levels of lossless. @moshibar@fedi.catboy.agency @mischievoustomato@rebased.taihou.website
